What Holiday? (whatholiday.world) is an interactive world map showing public holidays. This page explains what information is and isn't collected when you use it.

The short version

There's no account, no login, and no personal data stored on our servers — the site has no backend or database. Almost everything happens in your browser.

What we collect

We don't collect or store any personal information ourselves. Specifically:

Favorites: holidays you star are kept only in your browser's memory for your current visit. They are not sent to us or saved anywhere, and they reset when you close or reload the page.
Analytics: we use Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use the site — it records things like clicks, scrolling, and general navigation patterns (not anything you type into forms). Clarity only runs if you click "Accept" on the cookie banner shown on your first visit; choosing "Decline" means it never loads. Third-party services this site uses

To show holiday information, your browser makes requests directly to a small number of external services. We don't control what those services do with standard web request data (like your IP address), so we're listing them here for transparency:

Wikipedia — when you view a holiday, your browser requests a summary and image directly from Wikipedia's public API. See Wikimedia's privacy policy.
Nager.Date — used only as a backup source if our primary holiday data file fails to load. See date.nager.at.
BigDataCloud — on your first visit, your browser makes a request to BigDataCloud to approximate your country from your IP address, so the map can center itself on your region automatically. No coordinates or personal data are stored by BigDataCloud in this process. See BigDataCloud's privacy policy.
Geoapify — if you search for a specific city in the trip planner, your browser sends that city name (and your selected country) to Geoapify to find its coordinates and nearby restaurants and attractions. See Geoapify's privacy policy.
Calendarific — holiday data from Calendarific is fetched in advance by us and bundled into the site; your browser does not contact Calendarific directly.
Google Fonts — typefaces used on this site are loaded from Google's font servers.

Advertising

This site may display ads served by Google AdSense. If and when ads are active, Google and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites.

Children's privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone in that age group.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes — for example, when advertising or analytics are actually turned on — this page will be updated and the date at the top will change accordingly.
